Dorm Rules for Attendees

    Failure to comply with these regulations or the instructions of the Institute and residence hall staff can result in dismissal from BFTF and sent home, and/or additional penalties imposed by the University and/or federal, state or local legal agencies.

  1. Attendance at all activities is mandatory. Students are required to be present for all lectures, class events, institute events, and labs.
  2. Compliance with Staff. Residents are required to follow all reasonable requests issued by staff, faculty, counselors, or other university officials.babcock.jpg
  3. Alcoholic Beverages. Possession and consumption of all alcoholic beverages on campus or off are absolutely forbidden. The drinking age in the United States is 21.
  4. Illegal drugs. The use, possession or sale of illegal drugs or controlled substances is not permitted. Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action, including, but not limited to, referral to the Winston Salem Police Department.
  5. Smoking is prohibited in all WFU buildings. Only those people 18 years old and above may smoke outside of buildings.
  6. Weapons of any kind, or instruments used in a dangerous fashion are not permitted.
  7. Curfew. Students must be back in the residence hall by 10:00 p.m., on your hall/floor by 11:00 and in your room by 12:00. Room check will be at 12:00 every night. Students are to remain in their rooms between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Counselors will make room checks at the designated curfew hours. Anyone who is absent from room check, or who subsequently leaves, is subject to disciplinary action.
  8. Electrical appliances. In order to insure maximum health and safety standards in the residence halls the appliances which may NOT be used or stored in the residence halls include toasters, toaster ovens, electric skillets, waffle or crepe pans, crock pots, hot plates, hamburger makers or electric blankets.
  9. Destruction of Property. Any change or alteration of the room, window or door (interior or exterior) will be repaired and charged to the individual resident. Any change or alteration of the room, window or door is considered damage/destruction of University property and the responsible resident(s) may be subject to replacement fees and judicial action.   10. Reporting maintenance. Residents are responsible for reporting items that need repair to the BFTF dorm staff. This includes items in their rooms, common areas and bathrooms. If residents do not report broken items in the room when they occur, they may be billed for those items at checkout.
  11. Fire. Incense, candles, and all other open flames are prohibited within the residence halls. Fireworks are also prohibited.
  12. Fire Safety Equipment. Tampering with fire equipment including fire extinguishers, exit signs, smoke detectors, fire alarms, and fire doors is a serious violation of North Carolina law and University regulations. Residents found responsible for tampering with fire equipment will have their housing contracts terminated and will be automatically billed at least two hundred US dollars ($200.00). Further disciplinary action may be taken as the specific situation warrants. Violators may face removal from housing. Failure to evacuate during a fire alarm or emergency will result in a $25 fine and disciplinary action.
  13. Roofs. Students are not permitted on the sun decks of the dorm or roofs of any University property.
  14. Windows. Due to endangerment of self and others and possible destruction of property, residents may not sit on windowsills, place items in precarious positions on windowsills, and project items from windows, or tamper with window restrictions. Window screens may not be removed for any reason.
  15. Keys and locks. Residents are issued a key and building access card which permits them access to their assigned building and room. These are given for personal use and are not transferable. Residents must lock their room when not in them, as they are responsible for their personal security and University property. Residents who lose keys or cards must immediately report the loss to the BFTF staff and be prepared to pay for a lock change.
  16. Lockout policy. Residents are required to carry their room keys with them at all times. It is not the responsibility of the Staff to let people into their rooms.
  17. Quiet hours and noise. A resident’s right to sleep is a priority. During periods designated as quiet hours, no noise should be audible outside the closed door of a resident’s room. Quiet hours are 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  18. Room Checks can be conducted by staff that has reason to believe that some violation of rules and regulations is taking place, or that a student is away without permission.
  19. Violent behavior. Behavior of a violent nature cannot be tolerated in a community living situation. Residents who commit acts of a violent nature (fighting, physical and verbal threats, vandalism or harassment) can be immediately removed from housing. Students must not interfere with the comfort, study, safety, or rights of others during their stay at Wake Forest University. Please recognize that this involves a prohibition against physical and verbal interference of other students’ rights to a comfortable, studious and safe environment.
  20. Visitation. No student is permitted in the dorm room of someone of the opposite gender at any time. The residence halls are not open to visitors except with the written permission of a BFTF staff member.
  21. Leaving Campus is prohibited without supervision and consent from a staff member of BFTF. You cannot leave to visit anyone off campus without the signed permission from the institute. If a family member would like to take you off campus for the day, they must sign you out with the institute.
  22. Departure/Checkout. Students are expected to inspect their rooms at check-in and departure and report any damages to the dorm director. Rooms must also be checked out by staff at departure and must be clean.
  23. Tolerance toward diversity is expected.
