Media Criticism in the Age of the Internet

Taught by Ross K. Smith, Debate Coach and Instructor at Wake Forest University

Ross’ Ben Franklin Blog, tips and more: Silence Dogood Returns 20th Century pamphleteering

Ross taught a similar unit last year and he has significant experience with this topic and with involving students in hands-on activities. In fact, he himself is an active and prominent blogger. Ross will probe the way that the Internet is creating new opportunities and responsibilities for citizen expression and extending the horizon of civic dialogue across national borders. Answers to these sorts of questions will be sought using the Internet and through blogging within and beyond the student group. Students in last year’s sessions benefited in several ways from the discussions and internet dialogues they began under Ross’s supervision, and these dialogues continued and flourished long after returning home.
