Dr. Allan Louden, Director
Allan is a professor of Communication at Wake Forest. He currently serves as Director of Graduate Studies. Allan earned his Ph. D. from the University of Southern California in political communication. He lives with precocious “Ms. Wyoming.”
Dr. Linda Petrou, Administrative DirectorLinda is an adjunct professor at Wake Forest in Communication. She is involved in national, state and local politics and chairs the Forsyth Health Board. Linda earned her Ph. D in International Relations at the University of Maryland. She lives with Milhouse and Reagan, ask for pictures.
Dr. Alessandra Beasley Von Burg, Curriculum Director
Alessandra is an Assistant Professor of Communication at Wake Forest University, teaches rhetorical theory and hails originally from Italy. She will be teaching the Citizenship class at BFTF. Alessandra earned her Ph. D. from the University of Pittsburgh in Communication.
Dr. Ron Von Burg, Dir. Advocacy Section
Ron is rejoining the staff of the BFTF for his fourth year. He is an assistant professor of Communication at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. Ron earned his Ph. D. from the University of Pittsburgh in Communication.
Scott Freese, Home Stay Coordinator
Scott has arranged for Home Stay Visit since 2004 for program hosted at Wake. He is the Director of the International Campus Ministries of the Triad, which works with International students at many college campuses.
Odile Hobeika and Taylor Hahn, Dorm Directors/Mentors
Odile and Taylor (Tay) have served as BFTF mentors in 2008 and 2009. Odile, a Wake undergrad is working on her Ph. D. at the University of Pittsburgh. Tay received his MA from Wake Forest and is the Debate Coach at Clarion University in Pennsylvania.
Dr. John Dinan, Instructor
John is a recognized scholar in state constitutionalism, federalism, and American political development. He is the author of several books, including The American State Constitutional Tradition and Keeping the People’s Liberties: Legislators, Citizens, and Judges as Guardians of Rights. John’s Ph. D. is from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Nate French, Instructor
Nate directs Wake Forest’s Magnolia Scholars program which works with first generation students. He taught Social Movements class in the 2008 BFTF. His Ph. D. is from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
Jon Bougher, Instructor
Jon earned his MA in Documentary Film at the University of Florida this last year and will be pursuing his MFA at Wake Forest in the fall. He has several film credits including documenting the Haiti earthquake this year.
Aila Lonka, Mentor/Escort
Aila is a BFTF fellow and mentor for the last three years. She is doing a degree from the University of Copenhagen in her native Denmark. She will escort the Frankfurt Flight to the States.
Kenneth Sydhagen, Mentor/Escort
Kenneth, a 2008 alum, is from Oslo Norway. He also attended the 2009 Bulgaria Conference. He engages is numerous diplomatic endeavors including leadership training.
Kelsi Steele, Mentor
Kelsi, alum 2006, and three time mentor is a recent graduate in International Relations at the University of Montana. She won awards for excellence in areas including model UN competition.
David Hafter, Mentor
David earned his MA in Documentary Film at the University of Florida this last year and will be pursuing his MFA at Wake Forest in the fall. David is also holds a degree in Chemistry from UNC-CH.
Flandra Sylva, Alumni Mentor
Flandra, BFTF alumni from 2008, is a media personality working for “Blue Sky” Radio/Radio Kosova. She brings considerable media experience to share with fellows.
Artyom Bakulin, Alumni Mentor
Artyom spent the last year studying in Washington State under the auspices of the US State Department program. Artyom is an alum of BFTF 2008 and lives in Turkmenistan.
Kabul Allakhunov, Alumni Consultant
Kabul is an alum of the 2006 BFTF who hails from Kyrgyzstan. He also attended the 2009 Bulgaria Conference. He is recent graduate of American University Central Asia.
Kevin Mallary, Web Guru
Kevin is currently an undergraduate Communication student at Wake Forest. Kevin also runs a creative design and marketing venture, Mallary Creative.
Brighid Jensen, Escort
Director of Volunteer Services, Wake Forest. Brighid helped plan the Civic Engagement BFTF segment.
Amanda Gambill, Assistant Home Stay Coordinator
Amanda is a Wake undergrad with plans for Med School. She is working as an intern with the International Campus Ministries of the Triad this summer.
